If you’re interested in rejuvenating your skin, a professional chemical peel is an excellent choice. However, performing the procedure yourself can be uncomfortable and can yield uncertain results. Moreover, because a dermal peel involves the application of acids to the skin, you run the risk of damage or injury. This might sound a little scary, but with the help of our Refresh Med Spa LA team, you can enjoy fabulous results! Revitalizing peels are a common go-to solution for hyperpigmentation issues like sun damage, acne, and blemishes. If you are in need of an exfoliating peel to tackle these issues, visit our center today!
What is are Revitalizing Peels?
Minimal downtime is one of the biggest advantages associated with chemical peels. Repeated chemical peeling is a program of skin rejuvenation that aims to improve the skin over time rather than with one procedure. Perfect for the face, chest, back, and back of hands.
An intensive exfoliating treatment to detoxify, oxygenate and resurface the skin for a clearer more radiant complexion. A powerful exfoliation with a carefully selected range of cocktail acids and controlled acids can work to improve several skin concerns such as acne scars, skin folds, wrinkles, and pigmentation spots. Our Refresh Med Spa LA professionals will perform an analysis of your skin to formulate the precise treatment best for you.
What Do Revitalizing Peels Do?
Your chemical peel can be adjusted based on your skin concerns. Generally, dermal peel treatments are a great choice for those struggling with issues such as hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, and sun damage. For those who have acne or age spots, a mild acid may suffice. Those struggling with rosacea, melasma, or telangiectasia may benefit more from deeper chemical peels. The beauty of choosing Refresh Med Spa LA for your skin care needs is having your peels fully customized.
Glycolic Lactic, Salicylic, and Sensitive Skin Acid Peels
Refresh Med Spa LA offers an array of chemical peels used for the treatment of minor wrinkles, pigmentary variations, and acne.
The lactic and glycolic peels are very similar in their actions, but the molecules are slightly different. A good rule of thumb is pure lactic is best for treating age/sun spots and the pure glycolic is best for treating fine lines. The glyco/lac combination is great if you are looking for a revitalizing improvement in overall tone and texture.
Glycolic acid is the most active and beneficial of the Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA). This skin care solution and is made from sugar canes and is the only AHA that can penetrate through the cell walls by virtue of its small molecular size. Once inside the cell, it can trigger the new formation of collagen and turn on the synthesis of dermal glycosaminoglycans to plump up the cell and the ground substances in the skin to reduce wrinkles on the skin’s surface. glycolic Acid also affects the newly forming keratin cells at the bottom of the stratum corneum causing the bulk of the stratum corneum to lift off and separate from the underlying skin. This gives the skin a much smoother look and feel.
Lactic acid is a humectant substance that occurs naturally in the skin, and because of this, it is able to pull moisture from the air and hold it in the skin. Lactic acid is less irritating and more moisturizing than the glycolic. Due to this fundamental difference, lactic acid can be used at a slightly higher concentration than its glycolic counterpart because it is not as irritating.
Salicylic acid is a mild acid that works as a keratolytic agent. This substance encourages the sloughing of dead skin cells. It’s a safe, effective treatment for mild acne, oily skin, textural changes, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in people of most skin types. Mild acid solutions, such as salicylic acid and glycolic acid, encourage the peeling of the top layer of skin and the opening of plugged follicles, which helps reestablish the normal skin-cell replacement cycle. For milder acne, salicylic acid helps unclog pores and prevent lesions. It does not have any effect on the production of sebum or the presence of P. acnes bacteria. Like many other topical acne treatments, salicylic acid must be used continuously, even after acne lesions have healed. Its effects stop when you stop using it, so your skin will return to its uneven shedding; pores will become clogged, and acne may return.
Lactic and salicylic peels complement each other perfectly. Salicylic acid is great for acne, but is also drying, and is less effective in fading hyperpigmentation. Lactic acid fades pigmentation and pulls moisture into the skin. So, by alternating between the peels you can get the benefits of salicylic acid without the excessive dryness, and achieve faster improvements.
Our sensitive peels with a gentle PH balance include Argireline 20% and Azelaic Acid 15%. These peels are recommended for sensitive skin use and can address mild to moderate acne and rosacea, due to their ability to reduce inflammation.
